Original Isometric Sketch
First, I sketched a phone case on isometric paper to get a basis for my project.
Multi-view Drawings
Going off of my sketch, I proceeded to sketch multi-views of the phone case.
CAD Model
Over the next week into my project, I created my case on Inventor. Here is the final result!
Reflection
This project was a lot of fun for me because I was fascinated by the way I could make my own ideas, my own sketch, into a tangible, physical object. It was difficult to try and create each component to the case, especially because some of the dimensions probably would not have fit the phone. I later found out that it would have been much easier to simply "shell" the inside of the case instead of cutting into the original extruded rectangle with another "filleted" rectangle. Also, given that I do not currently have the iPhone 5 but plan on upgrading to one soon, I had to borrow Jackie and Sarah's phones for measurements. The hardest part of the case's creation was the simple phone case skeleton, so once that was complete, I was able to have fun designing the back. Once we started to 3D print my case, however, only the back printed out because the printer stalled and would not start back up again. So, once it is fixed, I will add some photos of my final product!
